“Ninna Pálmadóttir’s Feature Debut Is a Raw and Profound Triumph” - Collider
Gunner is a gruff, aging farmer living a solitary life in the beautiful Icelandic countryside whose peaceful existence is uprooted when the state government appears with the news that he must sell his home and move. He leaves everything behind and relocates to the capital. In the big city, his life of seclusion is quickly disrupted when he meets Ari, a 10-year-old paper delivery boy. Gunner reluctantly and unexpectedly becomes the boy’s after-school carer and their friendship proves to be transformative for them both.
Ninna Pálmadóttir's heartwarming debut feature written by Rúnar Rúnarsson (whose short The Last Farm was nominated for an Oscar) avoids cloying sentimentality with surprising narrative turns and two wonderful leads with effortless chemistry, elevating the film's tender portrait of loneliness, empathy and connection.
