“Mamifera tackles an endlessly complicated, often excruciating, sometimes beautiful topic with grace, humour, and easily relatable characters.” – Austin Chronicle
Winner of the Best Performance Award at SXSW for actor Maria Rodríguez Soto, Mamífera is a warm, gratifying comedy that takes a complicated situation and, through an impeccable lead performance, gives it a very relatable face.
Lola enjoys a happy life with her partner, Bruno, until an unexpected pregnancy upends their plans. Although Lola has always been clear that motherhood is not for her, she now feels challenged by social expectations and is forced to confront her anxieties. During the three days she spends waiting for her appointment at the clinic, Lola consults her friends and family, seeking to reaffirm her decision to become a parent. Meanwhile, Bruno must come to terms with his future as a father, something he never imagined...until now.
Director Liliana Torres brings an intimate and personal touch to this pricky and pleasurable film which draws on autobiographical elements with canny humour and touching insight.
