Everything’s Fifty Fifty

Everything’s Fifty Fifty

Australian Premiere

This jaunty romantic comedy follows Marion and Andi (played by Laura Tonke and Moritz Bleibtreu, Run Lola Run), a divorced couple with a young son who consider themselves to be exemplary parents with a simpatico relationship when it comes to raising their child. However, some behaviour problems at school and a forced joint vacation begin to reveal some alarming cracks in their once-amiable relationship. Adding to the already complicated family vacation is Marion’s boyfriend, a friendly but clueless personal trainer who stirs uncomfortable feelings of male competitiveness and jealousy in Andi. The uncompromising couple must work together to patch things up, put petty differences aside and become a family again.

Director Alireza Golafshan has a lot of fun pitting this once agreeable couple against each other as they realise, uncomfortably, that they’re not quite as over each other as they thought, and David Kross (The Reader, 2008) as the himbo boyfriend driving a wedge between them walks away with the film and is a perfect foil for Andi’s bruised masculinity.
